Bioterrorism and Disaster Preparedness
The Jessamine County Health Department and its staff recognize the importance of increasing our community’s ability to respond to disasters. Although the threat of bioterrorism seems remote, the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Department for Public Health has made planning and responding to an act of bioterrorism a core public health issue.

The Jessamine County Health Department has plans in place to protect its citizens in the unlikely event of a bioterrorist attack. Public health and personal preparedness are crucial in the face of any disaster and special emphasis has been placed on training our staff on how to react in the event of a disaster.

Our Bioterrorism Training Coordinator also offers educational opportunities for the community. Some examples include:

  • Bioterrorism 101 – provides information on various bioterrorism agents
  • Family and Community Preparedness
  • Psychology of Disaster and Terrorism
